Stretch Your Mind Beyond Fantastic

Our Professional Development workshops give you the confidence and tools to deliver music lessons in the classroom. Covering basic elements from the F-10 music curriculum, you will develop skills, ideas, and activities for immediate use. All events are designed for both generalist classroom teachers and music specialists.

All workshops are curriculum aligned to the relevant State music syllabus and aligned to AITSL Professional Standards for Teachers. Musica Viva Australia is a NESA-recommended provider because we currently run programs that are NESA-accredited.

Completing this PD Workshop will contribute 2 hours of TQI Accredited PD.

What if a simple piece of elastic could unlock deeper musical understanding, stronger social-emotional skills, and a more flexible teaching practice? In this hands-on, playful workshop, music educator Katie Hull-Brown invites you to explore elastic as both a metaphor and a medium — a tangible tool for stretching the way we think about learning, connection, and growth.

Drawing on current neuroscience and the concept of collective cognition, STRETCH explores how music is processed in the brain as movement, how prediction and past experience shape musical expectation, and how shared sensorimotor activities build community and deepen engagement.

At this workshop you will:
  • Explore shared whole-group activities — including elastic jumping games, rainbow ring exercises, and movement-based improvisation.
  • Experience how physical tools make thinking visible, foster collaboration, and create the conditions for genuine musical and emotional learning.
  • Discover practical, joyful strategies you can take straight back to your classroom. You'll leave with new repertoire, refreshed ideas for integrating SEL into music lessons, and a renewed sense of what's possible when you dare to stretch your practice.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:

These events are designed for both generalist classroom teachers and music specialists.

While our resources and PD are primarily aimed at Primary School teachers, all are welcome, including:

  • primary school teachers
  • pre-service teachers
  • school leaders with an interest in music education for primary school students
"We look forward to the ongoing partnership with Musica Viva. The workshops are always very good, practical and very fun! Excellent presentation as always."
