Music Education Residency Program
Music Education Residency Program
“I couldn’t even begin to explain the positive effect the program has brought to our school. Our engagement is through the roof, attendance on Musica Viva days is high and most importantly there are a lot less behaviors… When all else fails, music really does speak.”
Neerigen Brook Primary School, WA
The Music Education Residency Program focuses on individual schools, typically located in areas of socio-economic disadvantage. This immersive, three-year program is designed to support the implementation of comprehensive and effective music education.
By providing select schools with a professional teaching artist, live music performances, tailored learning resources and instruments, the program supports schools to develop the skills and confidence to have agency over program delivery. Ongoing support and experiential learning are then provided through the Musica Viva Australia In Schools program including access to a portfolio of free professional development and digital learning resources.
Our goal is to work with primary schools to ensure that music education becomes an integral part of the school’s culture ensuring that generations of children receive the educational and intrinsic benefits of a quality music education.
In 2025, we delivered 12 Music Education Residencies in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney, in a number of culturally and linguistically diverse schools as well as schools for students with additional access needs.
We thank the Tony Foundation for their support of MVA’s National Music Education Residency Program at Ashcroft Public School.
“Our Music Education Residency Program encourages self‑expression and learning through music, complements state curricula and builds important social connections within and around school communities that support student well-being.”
