Musica Viva’s 2017 International Concert Season has launched and we are proud and delighted as always to bring the world’s best chamber music artists to Australian concert halls.
Coming for the first time to Australia is the legendary Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment under the direction of renowned solo violinist Rachel Podger. Just as unique, yet wildly different, is American contemporary ensemble Eighth Blackbird who start the season.
Back by popular demand is the much-loved Takács Quartet; revered pianist Angela Hewitt who will perform her famous interpretations of JS Bach, and the dazzling Sitkovetsky Trio. The exhilarating and exuberant Pacifica Quartet join the International Concert Season for the first time and we are excited to bring together the powerhouse cello–piano duo of Nicolas Altstaedt and Aleksandar Madžar.
Few activities are as engaging or rewarding as listening to the finest chamber music, and it is a rare privilege each year to be able to hand-pick a harmonious collection. It has taken literal years to assemble this particular set of artists, and to refine the perfect matching repertoire to best reflect Musica Viva's guiding principles of quality, diversity, challenge and joy.
