Breaking Down Barriers Through Music

Teranga tour in South Australia in 2017.

The rhythms and energy of West Africa echoed across the state when Musica Viva In Schools ensemble Teranga toured South Australia in 2017. Teranga transports audiences to a world of poetic, rhythmic storytelling.

As part of their tour, the group presented a concert at a culturally diverse, disadvantaged school in Adelaide’s northern suburbs. Following the performance, the principal shared a touching story about the transformative experience of a young student:

“Teranga were fantastic! Due to some learning difficulties, I was worried about how one young student would feel – he does not like loud noises. During the performance, he was mesmerised and TOTALLY engaged. The performers were outstanding with him. This child’s face was so beautiful; his energy and participation were such a joy to behold. He was out the front performing WITH them the whole performance … !” School Principal.
