MUSICA VIVA SESSIONS - THE ROYAL BOTANIC GARDEN SYDNEY
Experience an eclectic chamber music concert inspired by nature and botanicals at the first Musica Viva Sessions event, featuring percussionist, Kerryn Joyce (TaikOz, Karak), and Kirsty McCahon (Australian World Orchestra, Van Diemen's Band).
Grab a free drink on arrival as we take you behind the scenes of the National Herbarium of NSW, home to over 1.2 million plant specimens at the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney and our concert venue for the evening.
Kerryn brings her speciality of Japanese Taiko drumming to contrast with the double bass and violone of Kirsty McCahon, performing art music pieces they love but rarely get the chance to play, including pieces from 17th-century Scotland and the tranquillity of Japan, to jazzy, busy city USA, and an Australian beach.
Home to internationally significant collections of plant specimens, the Herbarium, which began collecting in 1853, is now one of the most significant botanical resources in the Southern Hemisphere. Sneak a glimpse ‘backstage’ of the archives en route to the performance space and join us for an evening of unconventional works paired with an extraordinary venue.
Presented in collaboration with the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney.
