2020 Sydney Morning Masters
Ian Munro is one of Australia’s finest musicians, in demand as both a performer and a composer. For this solo recital, Ian has chosen music which reflects on friendship, and which brings out his trademark style of finely judged, expressive pianism.
Bach’s playful farewell to his travelling brother leads neatly to the lively dialogue between Schumann’s ‘imaginary friends’ Florestan and Eusebius. Dohnányi’s charming bagatelles pay homage not just to the friends he was leaving, but the master composers they all loved; while Ian’s own reflections on words by Judith Wright provide the perfect conclusion.
