Important Concert Update
It is with great regret that Musica Viva announces the cancellation of Piers Lane and the Goldner String Quartet.
‘Our primary concern is always for the wellbeing of our patrons, artists and staff,’ says Musica Viva CEO Hywel Sims. ‘We’re following government advice closely and have made the difficult decision to cancel a tour with our close friends Piers Lane and the Goldner String Quartet.’
You will have an opportunity to receive a refund for your tickets, exchange them for a later performance or donate their value to Musica Viva. We thank you for your understanding and look forward to welcoming you to a concert again soon.

Goldner String Quartet & Piers Lane
These are concerts of masterpieces, performed by masterly artists the equal of any in the world. Australia's most recognised and beloved pianist, Piers Lane, joins his dear friends the Goldner String Quartet in a national tour that marks the quartet's 25 years of musical brilliance. This quintessence of musical royalty plays with unprecedented cohesion and authority, drawn from decades of recordings and performances together.
The Goldners add a new chapter to their storied history of premiering Australian quartets, with a fresh work from Jakub Jankowski. Korngold’s expertise with vocal lines is exquisitely applied to his op 15 piano quintet: its expansive slow movement is based on one of his ‘Songs of Farewell’. Friends praised Brahms’ famous op 34 quintet as 'beautiful beyond words'. Program Two features Elgar’s Quintet, a rare chance to hear his piano-writing. Composed just after the Great War, he acknowledged its nostalgic, retro quality: ‘It is full of golden sounds and I like it. But you must not expect anything violently chromatic or Cubist.’ Dvorˇák’s popular ‘American’ Quartet blends New World birdsong with Old World melody.
