Mara! are multi-award winning masters of world music and in constant demand all over the globe. Centred around the extraordinary voice of founder Mara Kiek, this ensemble of virtuoso musicians uses woodwinds, double bass and plucked string instruments like bouzoukis and bağlamas to conjure up a unique, jazz flavoured, multicultural world of song. Students will learn songs and dances, and be given unique insights into some of the uncommon rhythms and scales that make up music from Ireland, Turkey and Bulgaria. Over thousands of years, the Yolngu people from Elcho Island in Northeast Arnhem Land have maintained a rich culture that continues to thrive today. They have been making music and sharing stories longer than almost anyone else. They are also among the very first masters of the yidaki (didgeridoo). This is a rare opportunity for a glimpse of Yolngu culture in your school. Dätiwuy Dreaming present an engaging performance that tells their stories through traditional song and dance. Despite being in constant demand all over the world, Taikoz are delighted to be able to bring their dynamic and heart-stopping traditional Japanese music to Australian schools. Centred around the Taiko drums, Taikoz shows are so engrossing because they are seen, heard and felt: students literally become sounding boards, vibrating along with the explosive energy coming from the stage – a stage some will even find themselves sharing with these masters of rhythm.
