Creating an easy composition using breath, voice and movement

Watch the video above for a demonstration of how to create an easy composition with your class!

It’s easier than you think to get your students improvising and creating short compositions, you don’t even need instruments. This video demonstrates a simple composition using the sounds of a train as inspiration, using only voice, breath and movement. Experiment with creating different types of machines, objects or even places. You might like to include some body percussion too. Think about how you can create a beginning, middle and an end to your composition.

In this video, we layer the sounds in one-by-one, gradually building the dynamics with a crescendo and then fade out in the same way we came in. This is a great way to create a clear and simple structure for your group soundscape or composition activities.
