Continuum Sax performs a unique repertoire exploring the expressive potential of the saxophone. The ensemble develop their repertoire through sharing their appreciation of the instrument and its musical possibilities with national and international composers and audiences.
Australian composers including Rosalind Page, Damien Ricketson, Brian Howard, Robert Davidson, Martin Kay, Margery Smith, Stuart Greenbaum, Paul Stanhope, Barry Cockcroft, and Matthew Hindson, have contributed works that exploit the sonic beauty, technical dexterity and rhythmic fluency of the quartet. Continuum Sax has presented Australian premieres of compositions by Elena Firsova, Franco Donatoni, Salvatore Sciarrino, Gavin Bryars, Perry Goldstein, Rolf Gehlhaar and Jacob TV.
Performance highlights include the Canberra International Music Festival, the Visual Art and Music premiere Nervous at the National Gallery of Australia, the 2013 Australasian Saxophone and Clarinet conference, the 2012 World Saxophone Congress in Scotland, the 2011 Australian Clarinet and Saxophone Festival, the 2010 ISCM World New Music Days, the 2008 Restrung Festival, the 2005 Melbourne International Festival of Single Reeds, and the 2002 Australian Clarinet and Saxophone Conference. Continuum Sax has often featured on ABC Classic FM, notably on Sunday Live and the Australia Day outdoor broadcasts from Hyde Park, Sydney.
In addition to their performance schedule, the quartet is active in education, often presenting composition and performance masterclasses for tertiary students.
Continuum Sax has released two CDs, CONTINUUM (2001) and ICON (2005). They have also released a purely digital album, titled Length and Breath (2011).
