Meet horn player Nicolas Fleury, violinist Emily Sun, and pianist Amir Farid – three outstanding soloists who’ll perform chamber music together for the first time, exclusively for Musica Viva in 2021. Watch as each of them reminisce on their extraordinary individual careers, reflect on the unique challenges of their respective instruments, and share childhood memories of their discovery of music.

Marvel at these astonishing musicians as they present music by Brahms, Mozart and a world-premiere from Gordon Kerry when they tour in 2021. Touring nationally 9– 26 June

In this video, watch Artistic Director Paul Kildea in conversation with members from Ensemble Q, Queensland Conservatorium’s Ensemble in Residence. Flautist Virginia Taylor, Oboist Huw Jones, Clarinettist Paul Dean and Cellist Trish Dean discuss their genesis and development as an ensemble, challenges encountered in 2020, and Queensland’s impressive track record for training brilliant musicians.

Finally, they talk about Paul Dean’s work that will star as the centrepiece of their tour – his Concerto for Cello and Wind Quintet. Touring nationally 10 - 28 August 2021.

Watch as the Goldner String Quartet - Australia’s pre-eminent string quartet, and an ensemble of international standing - journey back through our archives, reminiscing about moments and memories from their extraordinary twenty-five years together.

In 2021, Dene Olding, Dimity Hall, Irina Morozova, and Julian Smiles will be touring together with their dear friend, and respected colleague, pianist Piers Lane. In two different programs, they’ll perform music by Korngold, Brahms, Elgar, Dvorak, as well as a brand-new commission from Australian composer Jakub Jankowski. Touring nationally 22 September - 9 October 2021.

Learn more about the pianist Aura Go in this recorded conversation with Artistic Director Paul Kildea. Together they discuss the palette of colours open to pianists, her unusual musical beginnings, and her artistic process when approaching repertoire.

In the 2021 season, Aura will be part of our national tour of ‘Chopin’s Piano’, a theatrical performance centred on one of the great monuments of 19th century piano literature, Chopin’s 24 Preludes. Touring 8 - 24 November 2021.

Watch as Erin Helyard plays solos from Franz Tunder and Johann Philipp Krieger, recorded live from City Recital Hall for Musica Viva: Reconnect on 16 Nov.

Erin Helyard will perform alongside Alexandra Oomens on Wednesday 2 June for Sydney Morning Masters.
