Baum Quartett

South Korea

"Our rehearsal time is absolutely fun. We love pursuing the truth in the music, sharing each other's ideas and debating the interpretations of the pieces. In comparison to operatic or symphonic music, chamber music is normally written for composers' colleagues or important people. It is about human connections and affective relationships."   Hang-Oh Cho, cello

The Baum Quartett was founded in March 2016 in Seoul, South Korea.

The founding and current members are Sun Shin (violin), Onyou Kim (violin), Daekyu Han (viola) and Hang-Oh Cho (cello).

In the August of 2016 they participated in the well-known music festival 40. Internationale Sommerakademie für Kammermusik Niedersachsen and were able to bring the beauty of classical music closer to the hearts of the audience. Simultaneously they received lessons from renowned professors of music, continuing to improve their work.

The quartet also performed in the 9th Trondheim International Chamber Musik Academy 2016,  together with Peter Jarusek (Pavel Haas Quartet). Many concerts followed until their biggest success to datein September 2017, winning 2nd prize in the Salieri-Zinetti Chamber Music International Competition in Verona. Following this they went on to participate in the Mendelssohn Musikfestival 2017 , continuing in their quest to consistently improve their performance.

The name of the quartet comes from the German word for tree. A Baum (tree) symbolizes the beauty of unity of various elements. The elements represent the four members and their instruments   who form a wonderful unity in their music.

The Baum Quartett are continuing their studies currently at the Musikhochschule Hamburg.
