Bubbles & Pearls

8 Sep 2019

Musica Viva and Allure South Sea Pearls invite you to an exclusive afternoon of bubbles, pearls and music.

Join Allure South Sea Pearls Founder and Director Mr Lindsay Youd who will share his passion and knowledge of pearls in a fascinating presentation on the life of pearls. Guests will be treated to an intimate performance from young cellist Max Wung, coupled with exquisite food and sparkling wine from our WA wine sponsor, Cullen Wines, in the surrounds of the Allure showroom.

All funds raised will support Musica Viva In Schools and other exciting initiatives for young musicians in Western Australia.

About The Artist

Max Wung is an outstanding 14-year-old, Academic Scholarship student at the International School of Western Australia. He has been studying the cello with Rod McGrath and Xiaole Wu since 2010 and recently attained his Associate in Music Diploma with distinction.

At the age of 12, Max was appointed as the Principal Cellist of the Churchlands Senior High Symphony Orchestra and has performed in many public concerts in Perth and overseas, including a performance with the Vienna Pop Orchestra at their 30th Anniversary New Year's Eve Concert in 2017. He will play the Elgar Cello Concerto with The Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, as part of their Young Artist initiative, at the John Inverarity Music and Drama Centre Hale School, later this year.

ABC 3 TV, BTN Extra, featured Max while attending a Masterclass with renowned Cellist Lynn Harrell, at the Adelaide International Cello festival in 2014. In 2017 he gave an individual performance of the Bach's Cello Suite No.1 in G major and Saint-Saens's Cello Concerto No.1 in A minor for Pinchas Zukerman and Amanda Forsyth in Perth. Last year, Max was selected to participate in the West Australian Symphony Orchestra International Artist Masterclass with Gautier Capucon, as part of their Young & Emerging Artist Program.

Max has recently returned from Canada, where he won a place to participate in the National Arts Centre (NAC) Orchestra's Young Artists Program in Ottawa. The NAC Young Artists Program was founded by Pinchas Zukerman and has contributed to the success of many of today's most outstanding professional musicians.

At this Bubbles and Pearls event, Max will be perform Bach’s Cello Suite No.3 in C Major.
