The Penny Quartet are an exciting new addition to Australian chamber music-making, rapidly gaining a reputation as a fresh interpretative voice with drive and passion. Founded in early 2014 at the Australian National Academy of Music, the Quartet has been ensemble in residence at the Four Winds Festival, made their international debut as at the St Lawrence String Quartet seminar at Stanford University, California and been presented at the Melbourne Recital Centre. Alongside a love for the core string quartet repertoire, the Penny Quartet are motivated by an urge to explore less charted territory including working with new compositional voices and contemporary artists across art forms.
ODYSSEY
In Odyssey, the Penny Quartet immerses us in the world of the string quartet, with an iconic work from the father of the string quartet, Joseph Haydn, an energetic masterpiece from Sergei Prokofiev and a piece composed specifically for the group by Melbourne-based multi award-winning pianist/composer Joseph O'Connor.
