Musica Viva Kids Holiday Program

19 - 21 April 2017 (3 day intensive)
9am - 3.30pm
Ages: 8 to 12 (No music experience required)

Our exciting 3-day holiday program is presented by the talented musicians and educators, Doctor Stovepipe. These intrepid, time-travelling musicians will be sharing their love of folk fiddle tunes, popular rag time and Bluegrass music. Taking children on a creative adventure to learn how music changes through time and space, exploring the music of the past and reinventing it for today, this is holiday workshop not to be missed!

Musica Viva's kids holiday program is designed for children aged between 8 and 12 based around the development of creative and music skills and will be adapted to suit those who may have no previous musical experience as well as those who are high musical achievers.

Over 3 days, children will engage in a range of small group activities including instrumental music, song-writing, storytelling, singing and improvisation as well as fun group activities that explores different elements of folk music. This will all culminate in a final performance for family and friends on the last day of the workshop where children will showcase what they have learnt.

Friday 21 April 11am - 3pm

A school holiday treat for children of all ages to immerse themselves in the joy of ensemble music. Spend the day alongside our resident musicians, have the chance to try an instrument, talk to musicians and composers, explore musical interactive books and more.

Activities to include: mini pop up concerts with Musica Viva In Schools groups Teranga and Zeeko, paint a piano, create a musical sculpture, try an instrument, interactive music making, learn some African dance moves!

Doctor Stovepipe is the newest member of Musica Viva’s family of fantastic musicians and will join the Festival for a special concert for you and your family that will introduce you to the joys of small ensemble music. Doctor Stovepipe is sure to delight with their healthy dose of ragtime, swing, old timey and hokum blues.
