Hywel Sims was appointed CEO of Musica Viva in 2018. Originally from Wales, he has been leading not-for-profit organisations since 1992. Spanning three continents, Hywel’s work has focused on the development of organisational structures that sustainably support artistic vibrancy.
Having led organisations in the UK, US and Australia, Hywel brings a broad international perspective, as well as a deep commitment to music in Australia fostered through his work with Gondwana Choirs and – more recently – Musica Viva. Hywel also developed high school music education programs in Los Angeles, creating the Alive Music Project, which is now national in scope.
Hywel has been an integral member of Musica Viva’s senior management since 2014, initially as Director of Development and then as General Manager, Victoria. His tenure in Victoria was marked by strong box office results, countless new supporters and the resounding success of the first Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition to be delivered by Musica Viva.
