Musica Viva Festival Artist and Events Descriptions

Premier Concerts: Evening concerts held at the City Recital Hall Angel Place. Concerts run for 90 minutes plus an interval. Hear a rich sampling of masterworks and unexpected gems played by leading international artists combined with a wealth of leading Australian performers.

AYO Chamber Music Camp Concerts: AYO Chamber Music Camp Concerts held in the Barnet Long Room, Customs House in the late afternoon/early evening. Concerts run for 70 minutes plus an interval. The Australian Youth Orchestra’s Chamber Music Camp brings together dozens of young musicians from around the country for a period of intense study with leading exponents in the field. These concerts celebrate the outcome of this remarkable process with a stream of performances by the students and their mentors.

Late Night Concerts: Concerts commencing at 10pm held in the Barnet Long Room, Customs House. Concerts run for 1 hour. Hear music from different cultures while enjoying a drink in a relaxed club atmosphere.

Song Recitals: Afternoon concerts held at the City Recital Hall Angel Place. Concerts run for 75 minutes plus an interval. This song series provides the opportunity to hear top operatic singers in an intimate recital.

Lunch Concerts: Concerts held at lunch time at St James’ Anglican Church on King Street. Concerts run for 1 hour with no interval. Enjoy a diversity of ensembles and musical styles during your lunch hour in the sanctuary of Sydney’s oldest church.

Family Concerts: Morning and afternoon concerts held at the City Recital Hall Angel Place and at the Barnet Long Room, Customs House. Concerts run for 1 hour. Interactive concerts for all members of the family with professional ensembles from Musica Viva In Schools’ award winning education program.

Exploring Music: A series of seminars held in the Barnet Long Room, Customs House and the Justice & Police Museum. Seminars run for two hours. These informative and fascinating sessions explore links between music and culture.

In Conversation: A pre-concert talk held at the City Recital Hall Angel Place, 45 minutes prior to the evening concerts. Hear informative and entertaining talks given by experts in the field. Discover more about the music, composers and musicians.

Masterclasses: Intensive music workshops held in the morning at the Barnet Long Room, Customs House and the Justice & Police Museum. Masterclasses run for three hours. Gain insight into the process of making good music great as the Chamber Music Camp students are tutored by some of the stars of the Festival.
