Musica Viva In Schools offers you a number of engaging on-line resources that you can use in your classroom as part of your music program. You can access these resources for free through the Musica Viva web site at musicaviva.com.au. Simply click on In schools then On-line Activities.

The Viva Zone

An exciting online resource for middle years students (Years 5–8) and teachers to explore music in a fun, practical and creative way.

  • See and download illustrations and information on instruments – hear more than 140 instruments, many with video footage
  • Live a “Day in the Life of a Musician”
  • Play games such as Musical Hangman
  • Visit an Experimental Sound Studio where students can compose their own music using modules of sound, an extensive database of instruments, sound examples and images

Hands on Hindson

Let one of Australia’s leading composers, Matthew Hindson take you on an exciting journey through his compositions and creative process. Inspire your students with Matthew’s thrilling blend of classical, techno and ‘death metal’ musical styles.

On the website you can:

  • Download scores/worksheets and listen to Matthew’s compositions
  • Explore Matthew’s process diary for his work Comin’ Right Atcha

Hands on Hindson has been developed by Musica Viva Australia with the support of The Ian Potter Foundation.

Baroque On!

Take your students on a journey exploring the glorious music of the Baroque through Handel’s Concerto Grosso in D Major opus 6 no 5. Discover the compositional techniques used by Handel including ornamentation, imitation and pedal point. Listen to recordings by British early music group Florilegium performing on the period instruments. Scores and recordings are also on the site, which enable students to play along.

Rhythm Safari – New in 2009!

Help develop your students’ sense of rhythm with the Rhythm Safari CD/CD-ROM. With 14 tracks to choose from, crossing jazz, classical, folk, world and contemporary styles, the music is sure to have universal appeal. Suitable for year 7-9 students.

The CD-ROM component contains a variety of activities focussing on body percussion, movement and dancing, singing and rhythm games, composition and an exploration of percussion instruments and arrangements.

Song Safari

Musica Viva’s Song Safari CD/CD-ROM is a comprehensive teaching resource featuring 14 songs from the award-winning Musica Viva In Schools program. The songs range from Aussie bush ballads to gospel, world music and jazz.

The CD-ROM component provides a library of ready-to-use activities involving vocal and instrumental performing, listening, moving and creative music-making.
