Musica Viva Amadeus Society

The Amadeus Society is a group of esteemed individuals who have joined together to support extraordinary artistic initiatives of Musica Viva Australia. The Society takes its name from the Amadeus Quartet – one of the most lauded quartets in history. The Amadeus Quartet was revered for its meticulous preparation, flawless execution and breathtaking musical vision. Just as the music these four players created was a gift to chamber music audiences of the world, the Amadeus Society exists to make an invaluable gift to the musical life of Australia.

The competitive international landscape coupled with the tyranny of distance means that visits to Australia by some stellar international artists are increasingly difficult to secure. The Amadeus Society ensures that Australia remains firmly positioned as a cultural epicentre by ensuring Musica Viva has the designated capital to support extraordinary tours – a kind of artistic ‘futures’ fund.

What you can Expect

The Musica Viva Amadeus Society is envisioned as a musical dialogue between an audience of discerning individuals and the finest chamber music artists through an annual salon series of three concerts in members’ homes. Salon performances are approximately 40 minutes long followed by afternoon tea or supper with the artists.

Currently, Salons take place in Sydney. However, in future seasons, Salons will be planned in other capital cities. Sydney Salon artists for 2008 are Finnish violinist Pekka Kuusisto with Simon Crawford-Philips, the incomparable Takács Quartet, and Eggner Trio.

Cost of Membership

Membership of the Amadeus Society is $5,000 per annum for individuals and $10,000 per annum for couples. The gift is tax-deductible less the fair-market-value of benefits received ($500 per member).
