Stephen Hough

About

'The most perfect piano playing conceivable.' THE GUARDIAN

Stephen Hough is a mesmerising performer who can draw audiences to the very depth of his imagination and deploys his phenomenal technique with great intelligence and warmth. His extensive international performing schedule has not stopped him forming a deep attachment to Australia, and he became an Australian citizen in 2005. This fascinating program shows Stephen's delight in neglected works and challenging juxtapositions. In the first half, masterful classical works by Beethoven and Mendelssohn are united by Ross Edwards' atmospheric Kumari. The second is comprised entirely of waltzes, each one giving opportunities for delicacy and virtuosity while building towards the program's flamboyant and devilish finale Liszt's First Mephisto Waltz.

'Stephen Hough draws his audience to the very depth of his imagination, apparently without effort. The technique and inventiveness of this musical mesmerist are unparalleled.'
