Three acclaimed performers came together in 2006 to form Freshwater Trio, a vibrant new force on the Australian music scene. Eidit Golder, Zoë Black and Josephine Vains bring a unique collaborative, fresh and energetic style to programming and the group has quickly established a strong following through its own Melbourne series and performances in major regional and city festivals. The trio’s Musica Viva debut features Ravel’s masterpiece, a near perfect fusion of inspiration and craftsmanship written just as World War One began to decimate European society. Caroline Almonte, one half of the acclaimed Duo Sol, has a career encompassing solo, chamber and concerto performances and recordings. Kristian Chong recently returned from London where he studied at the Royal Academy of Music with Piers Lane and has a burgeoning career at home and overseas. Both students of Stephen McIntyre, Caroline and Kristian have performed Mozart’s Concerto for Two Pianos with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. In their debut concert for Musica Viva, the duo performs the third of Beethoven’s sonatas dedicated to Salieri, Dvorák’s last ‘American’ composition and a virtuosic showpiece by the outstanding Romantic violinist-composer, Wieniawski.
